The importance of recognising the excellent educators at Gippsland Grammar

We are very fortunate to have so many excellent educators on staff at Gippsland Grammar, and it would be wonderful to see them recognised for their work. Nominations are now open for the 2018 National Excellence in Teaching Awards. For 24 years, the National Excellence in Teaching Awards have provided communities with the opportunity to formally recognise and thank outstanding teachers and leaders working in schools and Early Learning Centres. These awards recognise the importance of the teaching profession, its professional standards and the critical role and impact that teachers have on young people’s lives.

Please consider nominating one of our great teachers for these awards. Follow the link below to nominate. Once the nomination is received, the Principal will be asked to endorse the nomination, which will then be considered by an expert panel of educators.

Welcome Hikarigaoka

The girls from Hikarigaoka Girls High School in Japan arrived on Tuesday afternoon after several days touring Victoria. At the Welcome Reception, held in the Chapel of St Anne, the students met their host families for the first time. I thank all the host families for the generous manner in which they have so willingly opened their family and home to girls who are a long way from home, but have shown a great spirit of adventure to learn about Australian life through this immersion program. I know that they will be navigating many new experiences during this time. This week they visited a Year 3 classroom at St Anne’s and, in addition to attending classes and learning English in their ESL class, they have an exciting program of events to experience.

Leadership in a P-12 school

Over the last two weeks, I have been privileged to travel with the Prefects to our two junior campuses as the Prefects present an exciting Fellowship for students and staff at each campus. It’s always a challenge for the Prefects to prepare a service which will cater for Prep to Year 6, but this year they produced an excellent service. Focussed on the importance of Respectful Relationships and seeking support if things aren’t going well, the students also conveyed a message about the fun and enjoyment of school. I thank them for the leadership they have provided.
