Music Department Tuned In

Preparations are well underway for some exciting music events this term.

Our Sinfonietta and Percy Code ensembles are combining with the Choir, St Anne’s Singers and Bairnsdale Singer to perform at the School’s Commemoration Day celebration on Monday 6 August. It’s always thrilling to hear the sound when we get together as a whole school.

Our small ensembles will be presenting a concert on Thursday 23 August at 6:00 in the Chapel of St Anne. Do put this in your calendar as it promises to be a great evening of music. We also have the Upper Years Lunchtime Concert on Tuesday 14 August in the Chapel of St Anne. This concert will feature a mixture of some senior ensemble groups and some very impressive solo works.

I’m pleased to announce we have a group of eleven students registered to attend the International Schools Choral Music Society (ISCMS) Festival being held in Shanghai in February 2019. There are still a few places left on this tour. If you are interested in attending, contact the Music Office. The students will spend nine days touring Shanghai (including Disneyland Shanghai) and importantly preparing professional level choral, orchestral and big band music for a finale concert at the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall on Saturday 23 February, 2019.

The Instrumental Tuition Program is pleased to have Georgia Dixon on board to teach voice. Georgia is a past student and brings her passion and enthusiasm for performing to the school. She is available to teach at all three campuses. For more information on voice and other instrumental lessons visit www.gippslandgrammar.vic.edu.au/music

On Saturday 18 August, the Choir will perform at the Installation of the new Bishop of Gippsland at 11:00am at St Paul’s Cathedral, Sale. What a great honour for our students to perform at such an occasion. We wish them all the best and hope they thoroughly enjoy being part of this special event in Gippsland.

Stay tuned for more Performing Arts news and events and I look forward to see you at our performances this semester.
