Gippsland Grammar’s shooting team performed well at the South East Zone Schools Down The Line Championships held in Frankston last week earning an invitation to compete at the State championships to be held in Echuca next month.
Individually Claire Merry stole the show. The Year 12 student, who has been shooting since she was 12 years of age, shot an excellent 14/20 in trying weather conditions which put her into a shoot off. She managed to hold her nerve and win the overall senior title.
Her team consisting of Aaron Barling, Hayden Johnston, Robert McNeilly and Lachie Anderson also won the day by three targets with a score of 67/100 over a more fancied Wonthaggi Secondary College, which consistently won every other competition at this discipline in recent years.
More than 115 shooters competed in Frankston.
