Head of Bairnsdale Campus

Two very significant events occurred this week, reminding us of how fortunate we are to be one of three campuses at Gippsland Grammar.

Celebrating Commemoration Day with students from our Garnsey and St Anne’s campuses at Garnsey Hall in Sale was a special occasion indeed. Our small, yet most committed group of Bairnsdale Singers sang beautifully under the direction of Jenny Candy, in the absence of Serena Jefferis.

Wednesday further demonstrated our strength of connection as a school, when Bree Henderson from Garnsey Campus brought fourteen Japanese students and their teacher Moko from Hikarigaoka Girls High School to Bairnsdale Campus to participate in a Japanese sports day. There were smiles all round as our students delighted in the traditional Japanese sporting activities. I commend our Year 6 students for the manner in which they confidently ran each activity, in partnership with our Japanese friends. Pippa Young and Georgia Steel contributed to both events by supporting our Bairnsdale Singers and then welcoming the girls from Hikarigaoka in Japanese. Thank you to Mrs Fiona Carr and Boulton Sensei for their efforts in producing a terrific day for all.

Our Prep students tell me they are ‘100 days smarter’ after reaching their one hundredth day of school on Wednesday. An excited Acacia enjoyed a trip to the All Abilities Playground to celebrate their day with the bonus of hot chips, a perfect accompaniment to the winter weather.

The good times continued today with our House Athletics carnival a great success. The sense of achievement was evident across all age groups, with a supportive and cheerful atmosphere contributing to the success. I witnessed many fine acts of sportsmanship and team spirit. Congratulations to all of our students, our dedicated staff, our supportive parents and our very efficient Physical Education teacher, Mrs Elisha Froud, for contributing to a great day.

A reminder that Book Week is fast approaching. We have a week of fun activities organised, with our character parade scheduled for Thursday, 23 August at 9:00am.

After a busy and active week I wish our students and their families a restful weekend.
