Head of Bairnsdale Campus

This week I have spent some time in our classrooms to providing relief for our specialist teachers and part-timers to write their reports. Teaching has always been my passion and working with children is the source of that passion so this experience has been quite invigorating. And I was proud and very impressed at the manner in which I saw our students strive to do their best and, importantly, how they foster a caring classroom environment.

Also this week, as a staff we revisited the learning intention and success criteria for our production, The Wizard of Oz, which is:

Learning intention: To understand and experience a musical production.

Success Criteria: That the students can:

  • participate with enthusiasm;
  • develop their understanding and use of performance or technical skills;
  • identify a variety of audiences; and that the students can
  • integrate learning in other areas of the curriculum

Without a doubt the students are participating in this production with enthusiasm and their performance skills are developing. There is great excitement throughout the campus with costumes being fitted, sets being painted and installed and programs being printed. A number of parents also gathered on Thursday for a very productive working bee. I would like to thank Hayley Dean, Kim Allouet, Jessie Ng, Anna Dick, Naveen Joshi and Joanna Ding who helped with props and costumes, under the guidance of Sarah Guinness.  It is with much appreciation that I acknowledge the assistance of these and the many other contributions that are bringing this production to fruition.
