SEISA Carnival success

Held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Thursday, the annual SEISA Swimming, Table Tennis and Badminton competition was a wonderful day. It’s always a great pleasure to be with these teams who are supportive of each other, competitive and genuinely engaged in the spirit of the day. They always engage with their teachers in a positive way and bring great credit to the School at such events and yesterday was no different. One of my SEISA colleagues said to me that not only are our students competitive, they are always so polite too. I always feel proud of them for this. While there were great individual successes and a more detailed report will be forthcoming, the teams placed first in Badminton and Table Tennis, and second in Swimming.

Malmo Scholarship 2018

Congratulations to Joshua Strauss, Year 12, who was presented with the 2018 Malmo Scholarship by Mrs Margot Carruthers at Monday’s assembly. Awarded to both a student from a Sale secondary school and a student at Maffra Secondary College, in memory or a local veterinarian from Maffra, Mr Sigmund Malmo, the scholarship is also recognised on an honour board in Garnsey Hall.  Congratulations, Joshua.

STAGGFAIR Spinning Wheel hampers

These are well underway and I include a list of themed hampers as a reminder to parents that all students are asked to contribute but also so our School families can start saving their $2.00 coins for STAGGFAIR’s famous Prefect Spinning Wheel. With over 30 hampers, there will be plenty of opportunities to win.

I’m sure Garnsey parents will be approached to assist at stalls if they haven’t already and different year levels have been assigned different stalls, although parents are welcome to help out anywhere they feel comfortable. If you are able to assist in some way, don’t wait to be asked but email staggfair@gippslandgs.vic.edu.au and let us know how you can help.

Students Achievements

Joey Rodda (Year 10)

Joey attended an Australian indoor volleyball camp in December 2017. As a result of the camp, he has been selected in the Australian “pre-youth” squad.  He will train at the AIS in Canberra during July and may be invited to further training camps. We are all hoping that this will open up opportunities for him to represent Australia in International games in the near future. Congratulations, Joey.
