Campus Captain’s Leadership Day
Yesterday our Campus Captains and I ventured to Caulfield Grammar to take part in an action packed Student Leadership Day. Campus Captains from 23 Independent Schools from around Victoria were engaged in meaningful activities to build their leadership capabilities. Participants were asked to define what good leaders do. They then had the opportunity to put this into action during an ‘amazing race’ styled treasure hunt. In a positive outcome from the day, Nicholas and Zara have decided to put a leadership session together for our Year 5 students in Term 4. Nicholas Missen and Zara Tacey should feel very proud of the way they represented Gippsland Grammar.
After a recent meeting with representatives from St Anne’s Parents and Friends group, we have decided to use our STAGGFAIR funds to develop a new adventure playground. We will combine all funds raised by the P&F in 2017 to build the playground when the old Year 3 and 4 buildings are demolished in 2019.
Year 5/6 Hoop Time Basketball
Earlier this week, Miss Bree Alexander took an enthusiastic group of students to the local Hoop Time Basketball competition. Below is a descriptive recount from Tom Gilham and Ashan Keppitipola.
On 30 July 2018, some talented Year 5 and Year 6 students had the opportunity to compete in the SSV Sale and District Hoop Time Basketball Competition. Three teams participated on the day with a mixed representative team who played in the All Teams Boys competition and two mixed teams one consisting of Year 5 students and one consisting of mostly Year 6 students who played in the Future Stars competition. All together Gippsland Grammar played 12 games, winning one and coming a draw in the rounds courtesy of the Year 6 Mixed team. The Year 6 Mixed team advanced to the Semi Finals which was a really close game but after a hard fought out game, St Thomas’ had the lead at the end of the game. All students enjoyed the day and played with great sportsmanship.

This coming Monday is Gippsland Grammar’s Commemoration Day, which celebrates the amalgamation of the St Anne’s Church of England Girl’s Grammar School and Gippsland Grammar boys’ school. Our Year 5 & 6 students will represent St Anne’s at the service at Garnsey campus. Students at all campuses will receive the traditional cupcake to mark the important annual ‘birthday’ event.
House Athletics Carnival
Just a reminder that Tuesday 7 August is our House Athletics Carnival at the Garnsey Campus. Mrs Amy Laverty and Mrs Kate O’Toole have been busy preparing for the day, with students participating in running sessions with renowned running coach, Dennis Huffer. Parents and carers are very welcome to join us.
Have a great weekend.
