What a term! This term has been packed full of learning and special events. We had a fantastic Father’s Day celebration, engaging Spring Concert, Tournament of Minds, Commemoration Day, Book Week, Bike Education, NAPLAN, Literacy and Numeracy Week to name a few. I know that not only our students but also many of our teachers are ready for a well-earned holiday. The first day of Term 4 is Monday 8 October.
Citizen of the Term
We acknowledged our Citizen of the Term this morning. Selecting a recipient is always a difficult decision for our classroom teachers. These awards celebrate our students who consistently follow and demonstrate our school values; Compassion, Leadership, Excellence, Responsibility and Respect.
Our recipients this term are: Bella Hams, Harley Sellings, Gisele Coggan, Sarah Black, Ebony Running, Ellie Brown, Kody Said, Heath Leeson, Ewan Logan, Finley Robinson, Averey Grewar, Jessica Martin, Ben Canfield and Georgia Anderson.
Janet Robinson, our Tuckshop supervisor, also awarded her ‘manners’ awards for students who display great manners when using our Tuckshop.
I mentioned at our Fellowship this morning that our focus next term is going to be on our core school value, Respect. We are going to put this into action through a few avenues. Our Specialist Teachers are going to keep a record of how well each class use their manners, wear their uniform and treat each other. We will be acknowledging the class that most consistently demonstrates respect at our Term 4 Citizen of the Term.
Years 3 and 4 Building Update
Our new 3/4 building has taken some great strides over the past few weeks. The roof is on, the windows are in and the majority of the brickwork is complete. According to our builders, we are a week away from ‘lockup’ stage. We have continued to work closely with the architects to design and create a space that reflects our contemporary teaching philosophy. Adaptable classrooms that foster collaboration, an indoors amphitheater and innovative IT and furniture are key features of the building.
'On Board' Skate Art Competition
Congratulations to the Year Six students whose work was entered in the ‘On Board’ Exhibition. Their entries were completed in their own time, representing a variety of themes and confidence with a number of mediums. Well done to Sophie Brown, Regina Cannon, Emma Coleman, Elise Perrett, Chole Doumas, Thomas Everett, Isabel Goss, Jayde Hall, Debbie Husodo, Alisha Kerry, Eden Levchenko, Madi Nicholas, Josh Vanderveen and Maggie Westman.
Green Team Fundraiser
This term, the Green Team is selling re-usable Tuck Shop Order Wallets. These wallets are a great way to reduce our impact on the environment, by limiting the amount of packaging required for tuck shop orders. They are easy to clean and come in a range of colours, and are also available as an insulated wallet. Sample wallets and additional order forms are available at St Anne's Reception.
Year 6 Exhibition of Linoprints at Gippsland Art Gallery
This week, the Art Monitors installed the artwork of our Year 6 students in the Children's Gallery at the Port of Sale. The students have worked hard on a design with radial symmetry, carving it carefully into lino. They have then printed it in a variety of ways, including a number of collaborative prints. Congratulations to our artists! The exhibition will be on display until Sunday 7 October; please come and see their incredible work.
Twilight Under 8’s Basketball Competition
Parents of Prep and Year 1 students who would like their children to play in a Twilight Competition for six weeks next term should email Amy Laverty email@example.com to register their interest.
Maffra Mile and Children’s Footrace
Once again the Maffra Agricultural Society will present the Maffra Mile and Children's 100m footraces on Saturday 27 October 2018. This year the event is sponsored by the Maffra Community Sports Club, with prize money totaling $1,400 available for the Mile event. Place getters in the children's events receive medallions.
