STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL: DROUGHT RELIEF
Actions speak louder than words, which best describes our SRC’s efforts over the last few weeks. Ably supported by Mrs Kristen Rich and Mrs Nicky Roberts, our SRC planned and ran a sausage sizzle to raise money for farmers in our local community. The bread was kindly donated by Baker’s Delight (thank you to the Stephenson Family) and we raised more than $350 to donate towards Drought Relief. The SRC would also like to thank Michelle and Leigh Thompson, who volunteered their time to cook the sausages. What a wonderful effort!
HOUSE SPELLING COMPETITION
This morning many of our students from Foundation to Year 6 competed in the House Spelling Competition. The thought of spelling challenging vocabulary in front of more than 300 people is very daunting to some (me included!), however, our students’ ability to demonstrate confidence and spelling skills always inspire me.
The House Spelling Champions for 2019 are;
Foundation: Ed Talbot
Year 1: Jessica Brewer
Year 2: Felix Baxter
Year 3: Tallulah Wynne
Year 4: Shevan Fernando
Year 5: Josiah Levchenko
Year 6: Mahdi Uddin
Winning House: Cranswick Dargo
GIPPSLAND REGIONAL CROSS-COUNTRY
We had a small group of our students compete in the Gippsland Regional Cross Country at Lardner Park near Warragul on Thursday. This event is typically a challenging and muddy affair but our students pushed themselves to their limits on the hilly course. Congratulations to Lily Canfield, Louis Lazzaro, Leah Roberts and Ava Taylor on their efforts (pictured below).

DEVELOPMENTS AT ST ANNE’S
We are continuing to develop the dry creek bed and vegetable gardens in our efforts to become more sustainable at St Anne’s. Years 3&4 students are driving our efforts to improve on composting, vegetable growing and much more. A huge thank you to Mr Mark, our talented groundskeeper, who has built an inspiring bridge over the creek bed. Work has also started on refurbishing the Year 5 classrooms and the art room. These works should be completed by the first week of Term 3 and will feature more visible learning spaces. We are fortunate to have skilled tradesman on staff to complete the refurbishments. Thumbs up to all involved!
Matthew Canfield Year 2
Congratulations to our musical students who performed at yesterday’s St Anne’s Soiree at the Garnsey Chapel. Thank you to Mrs Katie Germaine for organising the evening’s entertainment, and to our passionate instrumental teachers.
On Wednesday all students ventured to our Bairnsdale campus to watch the much-anticipated performance of The Wizard of Oz. The show was full of great performances, technology, live animals and a fantastic finale. Congratulations to the Bairnsdale students and teachers for creating such an incredible performance. I wish them all the best on their performances today and tonight.
Our thoughts are also with the Bairnsdale school community who are in shock after the sudden death of one of their parents. On behalf of the St Anne’s community, I send our deepest sympathy.
