Chè’s Ride for Cancer

Cancer is heart-breaking! It takes so many lives and the saddest part is almost everyone has been affected by cancer. SRC has decided to respond by supporting Chè on his personal venture to raise money for cancer research.

Chè Buckley is a student in Year 6 at our Bairnsdale Campus. As a response to seeing his grandmother have treatment for cancer, Chè decided the one way he could support her was to raise money. So with this in mind, Chè is going to ride from Wangaratta to Bairnsdale in October. His intention is to depart from Wangaratta on Friday 20 October and then ride over Mount Hotham and return to Bairnsdale on the Monday 23 October. If you would like to make a donation, please have a look at Chè’s web page.

Pippa Young shared her personal story.

“Cancer is tragic! It takes so many lives and the saddest part is almost everyone has been affected by cancer. I know how horrible it is as I recently lost my Grandma to cancer. Every week I visited her and she grew sicker and sicker and I never knew when I would be saying my last goodbye.

When I saw Grandma she wasn’t herself. She only drove her new car once before she had to carry an oxygen tank with her. Near the end she couldn’t sit up and she couldn’t walk. She is much more peaceful now”.

To support Chè and raise awareness of how cancer has affected many of our school families, Pippa Young is co-ordinating a photo wall. If you would like to add a photo of someone who has, or had, cancer or has been affected by cancer, we would love you to leave a photo with Reception. To raise money for research we ask for a donation too. All photos will be displayed outside Reception during the last 2 weeks of Term 3.

Other members of SRC are creating a guess the number of mixed lollies in the jar. Students can have three guesses for fifty cents. This competition will happen during the last two weeks of term.

After Fellowship on Friday 22 September, all students will participate in ‘Ride /Walk for Chè’s Ride for Cancer’. Our collective aim is to ride/walk as many kilometres as Che will individually ride. Students will wear their school sports uniform for this event. As this a Cancer Research Fund Raiser, we would appreciate a gold coin donation (or more) to wear a ‘Ride for Chè’ label when you walk or ride with the members of SRC.

Ashlee’s Hair-Raiser

Our GAP assistant Ashlee Robertson has decided to donate a 30cm length of her beautiful hair to a wigmaker and raise money for the Cancer Council in the process! At our SRC Fellowship on Friday 22 September, Ashlee will have her hair cut on stage. If you wish to donate to help Ashlee fight against this cruel disease, please visit her fundraising page:

Seeking bottles for Worm Juice

The Green Team would like you to please save any plastic bottles which they can re-use to bottle their much sought after ‘worm juice’. Any bottles with a capacity of approximately 250-450ml capacity would be ideal. Please bring them to school and leave at the office or give them to your class Green Team representative.
