I would like to wish all of our families a safe and enjoyable September holiday. This has been a very long and cold winter term and I know that many of our students are looking forward to a well-earned break after a very busy and blustery term. I would particularly like to wish our Year 11 and 12 students well for their upcoming practice examinations during the second week of the holidays.
On Thursday I was privileged to watch our House Drama Festival, alongside our Garnsey students and Year 5 students from Bairnsdale. This is always one of my favourite days of the year and this year’s competition did not disappoint. The plays are written, directed, produced and performed by students, a process which began many months ago with weekend and after school rehearsals.
I love this day as it is a chance to come together as a community and celebrate the many talented and hardworking students in our school; it is a chance to celebrate the end of term with some fun and, for many of our students, it is a chance to do something they love and experience that great sense of satisfaction that is achieved when a group of people come together for a common cause.
The key ingredient to the success of the House Drama Festival is the leadership offered by our senior students. As a student led activity, the senior students in each House take on the responsibility for each production. This is the reason why our House plays have always been, and continue to be, wonderful performances full of creativity, passion, talent and humour. Our star students shine and take their place front of stage, while many other students simply enjoy participating in a unique experience that, for them, only comes around once a year in House Plays.
I congratulate all of the students involved. I thank them for entertaining us and dedicating their time to these wonderful plays. I thank our staff for guiding and encouraging our students to be the best that they can possibly be. Finally, I would like to thank Ms Kyriakou and Mr Goss for organising the event and supporting each of the Houses in their preparation.
Have a wonderful and a safe holiday.
